How to get more Google reviews (without begging).

Happy customers forget to review you - not because they're ungrateful, but because leaving a review is four taps and they've never done it before. Your job is to remove every point of friction. Here's the system.

Step 1 - Build the direct link

Google gives every business a share link that opens your review box directly. Find it in your Business Profile ("Ask for reviews"), shorten it, and save it. Customers should land one tap from the star rating - never on a page where they have to find you first.

Step 2 - Ask at the peak, not the invoice

The moment of maximum goodwill is right after the result - the cool air kicks in, the leak stops, the smile lands. That's when the ask goes out. Not a week later with the invoice. The ask: "Glad we got that sorted! Would you mind leaving a quick Google review? Takes 30 seconds: [link]" - by text, because texts get read.

Step 3 - Make it a system, not a mood

The difference between 2 reviews a year and 11 a month is whether the ask fires every single job. Add it to the end of your job checklist. For Ridgeline HVAC this WhatsApp/text flow alone produced 11 fresh reviews in month one - and review velocity is a ranking input, not just social proof.

Step 4 - Prompt the right words

Ask "What did we fix for you?" instead of "How was our service?" Reviews that mention the actual service ("same-day AC repair") reinforce exactly what Google should rank you for.

The rules that keep you safe

  • Never pay for reviews or offer discounts for them - policy violation, and detectable
  • Never gate: don't filter unhappy customers away from Google (that's review suppression)
  • Reply to every review - it's engagement Google sees and future customers read
