Google Business Profile suspended? Here's how to fix it.

A suspension is the worst thing that can happen to a local business's marketing: your reviews, your Map Pack presence, your calls - gone overnight, usually with a vague "policy violation" email. Deep breath. Most suspensions are reversible. Here's the process.

First: why profiles get suspended

  • Keyword-stuffed business names ("Bob's Plumbing - Best Cheap 24/7 Plumber")
  • Address issues: virtual offices, PO boxes, multiple businesses at one address, recent moves
  • Duplicate listings for the same business
  • Suspicious activity patterns: bulk edits, review spikes, logins from new locations
  • Competitor reports - yes, this happens, and yes it works if your profile has real violations

Step 1 - Find the actual violation

Before appealing, audit yourself against Google's guidelines with brutal honesty: is your name exactly your real business name? Is your address real and staffed? Are you a legitimate business at that location? Fix every issue FIRST - appealing with the violation still in place wastes your one clean shot.

Step 2 - The reinstatement appeal

Use Google's official Reinstatement Request form (search "GBP reinstatement request"). Provide: your business name exactly as legally registered, supporting evidence - photos of your signage, utility bills, business license, vehicle branding. Consistency between your documents and your profile is everything. Submit ONE appeal and wait. Typical response: 3 days to 3 weeks.

Step 3 - What NOT to do

  • Don't create a new profile - duplicate listings turn a suspension into a permanent ban
  • Don't spam the appeal form - multiple appeals queue you into slower review
  • Don't "fix" your name with more keywords in the appeal
  • Don't pay a random "reinstatement service" from a cold email - that's a second scam on top of your first problem

While you wait

Your organic website listings still work - that's your stopgap. Push reviews to Facebook, keep your site updated, and use the downtime to fix the underlying issues so reinstatement sticks. A profile that gets suspended twice usually had the first appeal approved without the root cause fixed.

Handled before it happens

Suspension-proof profiles don't get this problem.

Guideline-compliant profiles, no keyword stuffing, clean structure - and if you're suspended right now, the audit includes a reinstatement assessment.
